CHARLOTTE, NC — One person has died after being shot by a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer on Friday. The shooting happened around 2:42 p.m. near the intersection of Lasalle Street and Newland Road in north Charlotte. CMPD says, they received a 911 call for a disturbance. When officers arrive d on scene, they say a group of individuals who were nearby were engaged in some type of criminal transaction. One of the individuals saw the officers and began to walk away from them. CMPD Chief Estella Patterson says officers gave multiple commands for the person to stop but that person then ran from the scene. Police say during the pursuit the person produced a firearm. Perceiving an imminent deadly threat, an officer fired his weapon striking the person, Chief Patterson said. Medic transported the person to the hospital where they later died. CMPD says no officers were injured during the incident. The identity of the person has not been released at this time.
