Lexington Co., S.C. (WOLO)– Lexington Co. Sheriff Jay Koon says a West Columbia man is in the hospital after exchanging gunfire with deputies. Investigators say just after 3am Friday they received a 911 call from a home on Shadowfield Dr. Deputies say the caller made threatening comments about de puties being prepared and “not sending a rookie.” Sheriff Koon says two deputies responded and found a 46 year old man standing behind an SUV holding a shotgun. Authorities say the man fired his gun prompting deputies to return fire striking the man several times. The deputies were not injured. The man was taken to the hospital. Deputies say they are familiar with the residence having responded to the location several times for assault, drug possession, and domestic violence.
