BRENTWOOD, Calif. (KRON) -- Hundreds of Brentwood community members gathered together Thursday evening to mourn and honor the lives of two high school student-athletes who were killed last weekend in a car crash. Caden Kyle and Dominic Ferrari, 17, were in their senior year at Liberty High School, school officials said. Their sudden deaths impacted many Brentwood residents and left their families reeling with grief. At 8:30 p.m. Thursday, a vigil took place at Liberty High School. The double fatal crash happened early Sunday morning near the intersection of Balfour Road and Deer Valley Road in Antioch. It's a narrow section of roadway with many twists and turns. Antioch police are still investigating what caused the collision between two cars, a white BMW and a silver Infiniti. Kyle, Ferrari, and a third teenager were traveling in the Infiniti, authorities said. Caden Kyle, left, and Dominic Ferrari. The third teenager was seriously injured and remains in the hospital. After receiving treatment for injuries, the BMW driver returned home from the hospital, police said. Ferrari's mother wrote a tribute to her son on Facebook and shared her heartbreak experiencing a "parent’s worst nightmare." She wrote, "Dominic, you made me a mother. You were my buddy from the beginning, and for so many years it was you and me doing everything together. I loved your sense of humor, how goofy you were, and how much you loved dressing up in costumes, just like me growing up." The mother continued, "There is a huge hole in my soul. I go between crying, screaming, shock, and numbness. My heart is also broken for the family who lost their son, and the family whose son is in the hospital." (AIO Filmz) As investigators work to piece together the events leading up to the collision, the Antioch Police Department asks anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who has surveillance or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the crash, to come forward.
