The 29th annual Oklahoma’s International Bluegrass Festival returns to Guthrie Oct. 8-10 with three days of live music, workshops, competitions and campground jams at Cottonwood Flats. Seventeen bands will perform across three stages, with this year’s lineup including The Slocan Ramblers, Th e Fretliners, Johnny Mullenax and bluegrass musicians John Moore, Jens Kruger, Todd Phillips and Rick Faris. Canada’s Slocan Ramblers have performed at the Grand Ole Opry, MerleFest and RockyGrass, while The Fretliners have won competitions at Telluride and RockyGrass and are preparing to release a new album produced by T Bone Burnett. In addition to performances on the Byron Berline Main Stage, the festival includes music and activities at the Youth Tent and Cottonwood Creek Stage. Saturday morning will feature individual instrument and band competitions for acoustic musicians age 18 and younger. Children can also take part in arts and crafts, and children 12 and younger receive free admission with a paid adult ticket. Musicians can participate in workshops covering guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, songwriting and harmonica. Oklahoma’s International Bluegrass Festival is a nonprofit organization that provides scholarships to young musicians, with proceeds from selected food vendors, festival merchandise and auction items supporting the program.
