(KRON) -- The Santa Cruz Surfing Museum will celebrate its 40th anniversary later this month with a community event at Lighthouse Point. The celebration is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, from noon to 2:30 p.m. at the Mark Abbott Memorial Lighthouse, 701 West Cliff Drive. The event will also mark the restoration of the lighthouse beacon and include the unveiling of a "Keepers of the Light" plaque honoring those who helped make the restoration possible. The city says more than $90,000 was raised through community support, with the money helping fund the ongoing care and preservation of the landmark. The Santa Cruz Surfing Museum opened in 1986 and features surfboards, photographs and other memorabilia highlighting the area's surfing history. ...read more read less
