Authorities are investigating a deadly two-vehicle crash that killed two people and injured two others late Saturday night in rural Brentwood. The crash occurred shortly before midnight on Deer Valley Road near Balfour Road in eastern Contra Costa County. According to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District, firefighters responded to a collision involving four patients. Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others suffered injuries and are expected to survive. Authorities said some of the people involved were minors. “It has been determined they are juveniles. At least some of the patients. We did extricate two of those individuals,” Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Brandon Burruss said. The California Highway Patrol is investigating what led to the crash. Preliminary information indicates a silver BMW and a silver Infiniti sedan were involved in the collision. Initial reports suggest the sedan may have been reversing in the roadway before the incident. There were reports that the BMW may have been involved in a police pursuit around the time of the crash, but CHP says there was no active pursuit. Instead, Antioch police say the BMW was wanted in connection with a pursuit involving a different law enforcement agency just days earlier.
