About 1,300 people took part in the Dallas-Fort Worth 9/11 Heroes Run in Arlington on Saturday. The annual nationwide event, sponsored by CVS Health, is entering its 19th year and is being held in North Texas for the first time. Saturday’s run/walk was at the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, where people could take part in a 5k or 1k run, walk, or ruck. The event welcomed family members of all ages and fitness levels to help mark 25 years since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks while honoring those killed in the attacks and in wars and conflicts since. Amy Looney Heffernan, the president of the Travis Manion Foundation, is the Gold Star spouse of LT Brendan Looney, a Navy SEAL killed in Afghanistan in 2010. Brendan was Travis Manion’s Naval Academy roommate and best friend, and the two are buried side by side at Arlington National Cemetery. Travis Manion Foundation was founded in honor of 1stthat the Lt. Travis Manion, a Marine killed in Iraq in 2007, and works to carry forward the legacy of service that followed 9/11. The 9/11 Heroes Run DFW is one of a series of races Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) will hold in more than 100 communities this month around Sept. 11.
