A man shot and killed a woman before killing himself inside a Philadelphia home on Saturday, according to investigators. The incident occurred inside the second floor of a home along the 2300 block of North 18th Street around 5:30 p.m. Police said a 43-year-old man shot a 42-year-old woman in the head and then shot himself in the head. The man and woman were both taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead at 5:54 p.m. While officials have not revealed their identities, Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace said they believe they were in a relationship. “It does appear the man and the woman were in some sort of relationship and we believe the motive was domestic,” Inspector Pace said. “It’s unclear the extent of that relationship but they both had known each other for some time.” Investigators also said no one else was inside the home at the time of the shooting. Pace said police found a gun in the man’s hand and recovered the weapon. They continue to investigate. “At this point, because it is a homicide, homicide investigators will be reaching out to family members or the person’s family members and there is no immediate danger to the neighboring community nor are there any other suspects being sought,” Pace said. “The investigation is pretty much centered on what happened that led to this terrible tragedy.” There are additional resources for people or communities that have endured gun violence in Philadelphia. Further information can be found here.
