Teen Shot On Dixwell
Sep 11, 2026
On Dixwell near Admiral.
A teenager is in critical condition after someone shot him near Dixwell Avenue and Admiral Street Friday morning.
Police were still on the scene at 10:30 a.m., gathering evidence and knocking on doors in two closed-off blocks of Dixwell between Charles and Henry s
treets.
Police Chief David Zannelli said police were notified of the shooting at around 8:30 a.m. by ShotSpotter alerts and 911 calls.
Responding officers found the victim, who was struck by gunfire and is currently at the hospital and in critical condition. The victim appears to be in his “late teens,” Zannelli said. (The New Haven Police Department latest stated on the social media site X that the victim is a 17-year-old from Torrington.)
Police were still processing the scene and had not yet found a weapon as of Friday morning.
In addition to the myriad detectives and officers on Dixwell, Hill Alder Angel Hubbard was also present, there to show her support for the police and the community.
“We have a teenager in the hospital right now fighting for his life,” Hubbard said, fighting back tears. She noted that the shooting took place at around the start of the school day. This type of violence just leaves her “speechless,” she said.
