RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Festival of India will return to the Greater Richmond Convention Center for its 43rd year this weekend with two days of music, dance, food and culture. The annual festival began in 1981 as the India Bazaar. In the decades since, it has grown in both popularity and attend ance, the festival's website said. The Festival of India will feature both classical and modern live performances and East-West fusion dance and music. The annual cultural program competition allows participants to show off their talents, including Bollywood and Bhangra dances, the website said. Festival-goers will also be able to sample Indian cuisine supplied by local restaurants and families. The festival will highlight traditional Indian clothing, jewelry, movies, music and souvenirs for sale, as well as henna, crafts, yoga demonstrations and other activities. Those who make an appointment can participate in the Indian Embassy's consular camp at the festival on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where completed applications for passports, visas, and other documents can be verified and submitted.
