Commission: August 30-Sept 5 [see the SlideDeck] Want range in this week’s Commission Accomplished? The top sales in the Greater New Orleans area for the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 5 delivered it, from new construction in Metairie to a historic French Quarter firehouse with a pool, and a 70-year-old waterfront home in Bayou St. John. The highest-priced sale was 369 Vincent Avenue, a newly built home in Metairie Club Gardens that sold on Sept. 4 for $3.5 million. The second-highest sale was 929 Bienville Street, the former Engine No. 7 firehouse in the French Quarter, which sold on Sept. 1 for $2.85 million. The third-highest sale was 4918 Bancroft Drive, a Bayou St. John waterfront home that sold on Aug. 31 for $1.89 million. 929 Bienville St. is one of the most unique residential properties in New Orleans. The two-story masonry firehouse built in 1907 still displays the Engine No. 7 sign on its façade, along with red-painted doors that reflect its original use. Inside, the building was reimagined into a four-bedroom, five-bathroom modern residence with 5,698 square feet of living space, generous entertaining areas, two chef’s kitchens, and a heated saltwater pool. The listing agent was George Jeansonne of FQR Realtors. The sales agent was Peter Menge Jr. of McCarthy Group Realtors. Menge said the out-of-state buyer was looking for a permanent residence in New Orleans and was especially focused on the French Quarter. “We looked at a lot of wide-ranging properties in the French Quarter; he said that he wanted something unique, and there’s really nothing like the firehouse,” Menge said. “It is breathtaking from the moment you see the exterior, and then you walk inside and see how beautifully it was transformed into a modern residence. It has this amazing juxtaposition of a 100-year-old building with a timeless soul balanced with sleek, contemporary touches.” According to The Historic New Orleans Collection, the firehouse was designed in 1907 by architect E.A. Christy and built by Muir and Fromberg. The building combines decorative brick with Romanesque Revival detailing. Louisiana native and developer John Kirkendoll bought the property in 2005 for $1 million and worked with New Orleans-based Bockman+Forbes Design on the renovation. The home was previously featured in CityBusiness’ “On the Market.” “John and his team were masterful in the transformation into a luxurious and contemporary residence; people gasp in awe when they walk in,” said Jeansonne. “Every attention to detail was carefully considered, and the thought put into the floor plan, exposed wood, exposed brick, all combine to create this warmth around the residence. It’s truly a unique home unlike any other and just a different, higher-end level of luxury that sets it apart.” The interior includes suede-covered walls, polished Bomanite floors, reclaimed heart-pine millwork, custom lighting, high ceilings, an elevator, two full chef’s kitchens with high-end appliances, and original exposed brick. “The original exposed brick serves as a charming reminder of the building’s rich history, while the reclaimed wood showcases the meticulous craftsmanship that has gone into the renovation,” said Jeansonne. “Custom lighting throughout the home creates a warm and inviting ambiance.” The first floor includes spacious entertaining areas, soaring ceilings, and a kitchen that opens to the dining area. There are private bedroom suites on the second floor. The heated saltwater pool sits near the center of the property, creating a private courtyard setting in the Upper French Quarter. 369 Vincent Ave. is a newly built custom home with five bedrooms, five full bathrooms, two half-bathrooms, and 5,833 square feet of living space on a 67-by-120-foot corner lot. Built by Fairway Development Corp., the residence also includes a pool, spa, outdoor kitchen, and a covered patio. The listing agent was Peggy King Bruce of McCarthy Group Realtors. The sales agent was Sonya Encalade-Jones of Haus Nola Realty Group, LLC. “I’ve been very fortunate to represent Fairway Development Corporation, which I truly believe is one of the premier luxury builders in our area,” Bruce said. “The buyers fell in love with the home immediately — the floor plan, the quality of the construction, and especially the incredible attention to detail Fairway puts into every home they build.” Bruce said the buyers were able to put the home under contract about halfway through construction, giving them the opportunity to add personal touches to some of the selections and customizations. “That made the experience even more special,” Bruce said. “By the time the home was finished, it really felt like it had been created just for them. What I enjoyed most was how well everyone worked together throughout the process. There was a real sense of collaboration, and everyone wanted the same thing in the end — a beautiful home and happy clients.” Highlights include a painted brick exterior, bronze Sierra Pacific windows, Spanish cedar shutters, copper gas lanterns, bluestone porches, and a paver driveway. Interior features include 12-foot ceilings downstairs, European white oak flooring, a downstairs primary suite with a marble bathroom, a formal dining room, an open family room with a wood-burning gas fireplace, and a dedicated office or study. The kitchen includes a 48-inch Wolf range with double ovens and an infrared griddle, a 42-inch Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, quartzite counters, custom cabinetry, a scullery pantry with a dishwasher, and a butler’s pantry with Sub-Zero wine refrigeration and a specialty ice maker. The home also includes four en-suite bedrooms upstairs, a media and game lounge with a wet bar, two laundry rooms, elevator readiness, generator pre-wire, an alarm and camera system, surround sound, irrigation, drainage, an 8-foot privacy fence, three high-efficiency Ruud HVAC systems, ZIP System sheathing, a spray-foam insulated attic, and a certified, fortified roof. 4918 Bancroft Drive features four bedrooms, six bathrooms, and 6,048 square feet of living space. The property sits on an oversized, terraced waterfront lot with views of the bayou from the living area, kitchen, primary bedroom, and pool area. Built in 1956, the home includes three separate dens, an open floor plan flow for entertaining, an in-ground pool with a waterfall, a garage, and driveway parking for up to 10 vehicles. It is located across from City Park’s new PGA golf course and bike path. GiGi Burk of Burk Brokerage, LLC, represented both the listing and the sale.
