Offduty officer hurt, firearm taken in North Philly assault
Sep 11, 2026
An off-duty Philadelphia police officer has been hospitalized, officials said, after being attacked overnight in North Philly by an assailant who took the officer’s firearm.
According to Philadelphia Police Department Chief Inspector Scott Small, the incident happened when an off-duty officer
was assaulted by a man, just before midnight on Thursday, near the intersection of 10th and Brown streets in North Philly.
Though Small did not immediately say what sparked the incident or how the attack unfolded, he said at some point in this attack, the suspected attacker stole the officer’s firearm and some other belongings.
Officers responding to the scene of this attack, Small said, took the off-duty officer to a nearby hospital where he was being treated for minor injuries.
Also, he said, police have appended the man believed responsible for the attack after matching him with surveillance footage that law enforcement officials reviewed from the scene.
Small did not immediately provide more information on this individual, nor did he say what charges the man could face.
But, he said, an investigation into this incident was ongoing.
