At least 10 businesses were targeted in a series of smash-and-grab break-ins early Thursday morning in Pleasanton. NBC Bay Area witnessed three of the break-ins at businesses near Santa Rita Road at about 4:30 a.m. An NBC Bay Area photographer spotted a group of about four or five people dress ed in black smashing the front glass doors of businesses before leaving in a silver vehicle. NBC Bay Area called 911, and three Pleasanton police units arrived within minutes. Officers attempted to box in the vehicle, but the suspects drove away, leading police on a brief pursuit. The vehicle traveled down Valley Avenue and onto Stanley Boulevard with its lights off. Police eventually called off the pursuit near Isabel Avenue because of concerns for public safety. Police were already searching for suspects following reports of break-ins at about 3:50 a.m. at several businesses at Pacific Pearl shopping center near the Livermore outlets. Surveillance video provided to NBC Bay Area by the owner of a Korean fried chicken restaurant showed people smashing their way into the business and leaving within seconds with cash. Six restaurants at Pacific Pearl and four businesses near Santa Rita Road appeared to have been targeted, including two restaurants, a nail salon and Perry’s Liquors.
