HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County continues to honor a 33-year-old police officer who was killed while investigating a traffic crash in the county's Sandston area 80 years ago. The morning of Tuesday, Sept. 8, community members, family, friends and the Henrico County Police Division gath ered for a wreath-laying ceremony in memory of 33-year-old Lewis R. Beddow. Beddow died on Sept. 8, 1946, after authorities said he was hit and killed by a passing driver while investigating a traffic crash on Williamsburg Road. He joined the police force in 1943 and married the following year. Authorities said Beddow's wife gave birth to their only child 15 days after his death. ...read more read less
