Bellevue students expected to return to school on Thursday following final testing

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Bellevue Elementary School plans to have students return to school on Thursday as Richmond Public Schools (RPS) cleans and tests mold-infected classrooms.
On Tuesday, Sept. 8, around 4:30 p.m., Bellevue reported that all four classrooms sanitized on Sunday have passed an air
quality test, with cleaning now completed in all classrooms.
Bellevue closed Monday, Aug. 31, due to mold, one of two Richmond elementary schools that have faced mold issues since the start of the 2026-27 school year. The other one is Barack Obama Elementary School.

Technicians also gathered air samples from the final five rooms on Tuesday, with the test results to be shared at a later time.
On Wednesday, Sept. 9, staff will return to the classrooms that have been cleaned and cleared to arrange them. On Thursday, Sept. 10, students are expected to return to school.
