Let’s look at the record. Juan Carlos Porras has gone to Tallahassee and gone to work for District 119. He has been a strong voice for his constituents, he has taken on issues that matter to families and homeowners, and he has delivered results. That’s what we should expect from an elected offic ial. Not excuses. Not empty promises. Not somebody who disappears after Election Day. We want somebody who shows up, fights for the community and gets things done. Porras has shown he understands that responsibility. One of the clearest examples is his work on homeowners association reform. For years, homeowners have complained about excessive rules, fees, bureaucracy and a lack of accountability. These are people dealing with the largest investment of their lives — their homes — and they deserve a government that listens when they have legitimate concerns. Porras listened and then went to work. He helped push reforms designed to give homeowners greater protections while demanding more transparency and accountability from HOA boards. That’s the kind of issue that matters because it affects people in their everyday lives, not just when the Legislature is in session. Porras has also helped bring more than $8 million in state funding back to the community. Let’s not minimize that. More than $8 million is real money, and getting those dollars back to Miami-Dade takes work. It takes knowing the system, fighting for your district and making sure your community doesn’t get overlooked in Tallahassee. Porras has made that part of his job. He has also made protecting taxpayers, public safety and government accountability priorities. Those are not campaign slogans. Those are issues that directly affect the families and businesses he represents. What we like about Porras is that he brings energy to the job and isn’t afraid to challenge the status quo. Miami-Dade doesn’t need another politician who simply goes along to get along. We need representatives who will ask questions, stand up for their constituents and fight when something isn’t right. Porras has demonstrated that willingness. He understands that his job is not to serve the political establishment. His job is to serve the people who sent him to Tallahassee. That is exactly the attitude we want from a state representative. At Miami Community Newspapers, we have always believed elected officials should be judged by what they actually accomplish. Anybody can make promises. Anybody can put up a campaign sign. Anybody can tell voters what they want to hear. The real test comes after Election Day. Does the representative show up? Does he fight? Does he deliver? Does he bring results back home? Juan Carlos Porras has done that. He has fought for homeowners, brought state resources back to the community and given District 119 a strong voice in Tallahassee. Miami Community Newspapers strongly supports Juan Carlos Porras for State Representative, District 119. He has earned that support the old-fashioned way — by working for it. He has shown up, he has fought for his constituents and he has delivered for the community. That’s the kind of representative we need, and that’s why Juan Carlos Porras has our strong support. The post PORRAS GETS THE JOB DONE first appeared on Miami's Community News. ...read more read less
