RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Bellevue Elementary students will return to school on Thursday after recent test results cleared five classrooms of mold concerns. Bellevue Elementary School has been closed since Aug. 31 due to mold. It is one of two Richmond elementary schools that have faced mold issu es since the start of the 2026-27 school year. The other school is Barack Obama Elementary School. In a daily update on Tuesday, Sept. 8, Richmond Public Schools (RPS) shared that cleaning is complete across all classrooms, with only five rooms left for final testing. Four rooms cleaned on Sunday, Sept. 6, passed testing with spore levels below those in natural outdoor air, the update reads. Air sample results for the final five cleaned rooms are expected Tuesday evening, according to the school division. The district said they continue to perform continuous dehumidification and air scrubbing throughout the building. PREVIOUS: Bellevue students won’t be headed back to school on Tuesday as planned Ten total classrooms originally had mold. Bellevue was initially set to reopen on Tuesday, Sept. 8. RPS said teachers whose classrooms were impacted can set up on Wednesday when test results are clear.
