Baltimore Fishbowl’s eleventh annual Guide to Baltimore Independent Schools is out! Over the next few weeks, we will share stories from the Guide about the students, teachers, administrators, campuses, and programs that make up the independent school community. Check out the digital ver sion above, and read our Letter from the Editor, below, to learn more about this year’s Guide. LETTER FROM THE EDITOR Dear Readers, The Baltimore region has a rich tradition of quality independent schools. Some have roots in religious or spiritual philosophies, while many are secular. Regardless of their orientations, these schools are universally inclusive of students who enroll there, and seek to educate the complete person. Likewise, we design our annual Guide to Baltimore Independent Schools to be inclusive in how these schools are presented. In the pages of this guide, our 11th edition, you can find valuable information about the region’s many schools, their key leaders and their strengths and unique offerings. Baltimore Fishbowl takes pride in the stories that are included in the Guide, which examine timely topics confronting independent school communities. Readers can learn more about the various thoughtful approaches schools are taking as they grapple with artificial intelligence in classroom settings. They are trying to strike the right balance, moving neither too quickly nor too slowly — a challenging task in a rapidly changing world. Finding the right staff is another challenge for any organization, and another story this year looks at how independent schools recruit and retain the best teachers as they seek the right fit and best match for their cultures. Beyond academics, we also explore some of the more interesting extracurricular activities offered by the region’s schools, recognizing that learning and development take place in many shapes. We hope this guide captures the full spectrum and richness of our region’s independent schools. The team at Baltimore Fishbowl loves producing the Guide to Baltimore Independent Schools, and we hope you enjoy reading it. David Nitkin Baltimore Fishbowl Executive Editor ...read more read less
