HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) — The city of Hopewell and Hopewell Recreation and Parks are inviting community members to remember and reflect during “Hopewell Remembers: 9/11 Week of Reflection,” with several events throughout the week. For the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks , Hopewell is hosting a week-long initiative for residents to remember and honor those who lost their lives, recognize the sacrifices made by first responders and reflect on the unity that brought the community together after the attacks. According to the release, each day will feature a different theme and opportunity for the community: Monday, Sept. 7 - "Reflect and Remember: 25 Acts of Unity": residents are encouraged to do acts of kindness, service or reflection. Tuesday, Sept. 8 - "Peace and Hope": residents can visit the Hopewell Community Center and make paper cranes as symbols of peace and hope or write a "letter to heroes." Wednesday, Sept. 9 - "Unity Through Movement": the Hopewell Community Center will host a Memorial Stair Climb from 7:30 to 10 a.m., with a community goal of completing 2,017 steps or 110 stories. There will also be a Reflection Walk from 6 to 7 p.m. at Crystal Lake Park, where attendees will walk 2.977 miles for the 2,977 lives lost on 9/11. Thursday, Sept. 10 - "One Community, Many Voices": residents are invited to Ashford Civic Plaza to add a ribbon to a community tribute to remember those who lost their lives, honor a hero or serve as a symbol of hope and unity. Friday, Sept. 11 - "Day of Remembrance": there will be a remembrance ceremony at the Hopewell Community Center at 8:46 a.m., including a moment of silence and a special program. Attendees should arrive by 8:15 a.m. "Through these activities, Hopewell residents of all ages and abilities are encouraged toparticipate in a way meaningful to them as the community honors those lost, recognizes thosewho served, and remembers the unity demonstrated in the aftermath of September 11," the press release stated.
