Seth Clarin Miami Palmetto High School senior Seth Clarin loves to give back to the community. He’s learning a lot about giving back in a meaningful way being a part of the Temple Beth Am Social Justice Teen Fellowship. “We go on a service project every month,” he says. “We went to Guatemala We built an oven for a local resident there who didn’t have as much. We also built a toilet/irrigation system for farmers up in the mountains.” They spent three days doing community service and interacting with the children in the community. Locally, they went to Lotus House and served food. They have helped with Thanksgiving meals. “The service project, there is a lesson always mixed into it,” he says. “Lotus House was a lesson about gender equality. We’ve done things in the African American community. To show how closely Jews worked with the NAACP during the civil rights movement. To focus on everyone being treated fairly.” Junior year was a busy year for him. “I’m a founder of a charity raising money for a pediatric brain tumor foundation.” The charity is the BranD Initiative, named after his cousin who passed away from a pediatric brain tumor. The charity has only been operational for a few months. They raise money through donations. “For something you sell, or something you do, you donate x amount of money,” he says. He’s been recruiting companies and businesses to sign up. “I’m starting off with the ones that I know,” he says. “I bring it up to them. It’s a great cause and going to a good thing. People love to see money going to a good thing because I haven’t had a no yet. It’s really fulfilling trying to honor my cousin’s legacy.” He’s also planning to put together an event to raise more money. “Brandon adored basketball,” he says. “I’m trying to see if I can do some sort of basketball event and tell his story. It’s important to tell the story.” Brandon was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2018. He was in remission for more than four years but then it came back. He passed away in 2025. “As a whole,” he says. “We’ve raised $7,000 and we’ve been active maybe three months.” When he’s not fundraising, Clarin spends his time as a professional photographer, shooting sports events. “I shoot for the University of Miami football team,” he says. “I shoot for professional athletes. I shoot for companies. I have access to every home game. I got to every practice in Coral Gables.” He also attends every media opportunity he can. “I love to learn and prepare for my future,” he says. “Journalism is a very cool path, and I hope I can keep it in my life somehow.” He started taking pictures when he joined the school newspaper. He’s gone from taking pictures to a social media interview role. “I get a new interview out once or twice every two weeks,” he says. “As often as I can.” He’s also taken on a social media role for the football team. “I make videos and content for them, pictures, studio sessions, I did their media day,” he says. “I take pictures and send hype out about the team.” He’s doing a similar job for the administration, as a social media interview host. Clarin is the president of the Jewish Student Union and a historian for Student Council. His college applications include the University of Florida, Florida State, the University of Miami, the University of Central Florida and Syracuse.
