IMPD: Motorcyclist dies after trying to pass 2 vehicles on city's south side

INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) -- A motorcyclist died Saturday night after attempting to pass two vehicles on the city's south side, according to police.Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to East Hanna Avenue
and South Dearborn Street at 7:45 p.m. on a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck.Arriving officers found the unresponsive motorcyclist in a yard on the northeast corner of the intersection. The man was taken to the hospital, where he died shortly after, IMPD told WRTV 6 News.Witnesses told investigators the motorcycle was traveling behind a silver truck and a black SUV when the rider all of a sudden, dropped it into gear and crossed the double yellow line to pass both vehicles.As the truck turned left onto northbound South Dearborn Street, the motorcycle struck the side of the vehicle and ended up into the yard, according to IMPD.Police confirmed the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet.Both the driver of the truck and the SUV stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.Police are asking anyone with information to contact Adam Jones with Crash Investigations at 317-327-6549 or Crime Stoppers at 317-262-8477.
