According to AAA, the average gas price in California for this Labor Day weekend is $5.81, $1.20 more expensive than a year ago. According to AAA, the average in California is climbing, right ahead of Labor Day weekend. Fuel prices are increasing as the war with Iran continues. “There’s no real sign of change in the war in the middle east and that is the main driver of the spike in gas prices, so I don’t think we’re likely to see any real relief in the next few weeks,” Energy Institute at Haas, UC Berkeley Faculty Director Severin Borenstein said. Borenstein says it’s difficult to predict what the price at the pump could look like in a few months too because so much of it is driven by the war.
