The Highlands football team is on a roll.Watch the highlights: Highlands beats Campbell County 55-14The Bluebirds defeated host Campbell County Friday night 55-14 in a Northern Kentucky showdown."Very fundamental night," Highlan ds coach Bob Sphire said. "I thought our tackling was really good. We took care of the football. We were patient. We got explosive plays but we weren't forcing things."Highlands sophomore quarterback Bryce Armstrong was 8 of 11 passing for 183 yards and three touchdowns in the first half for the Bluebirds."Bryce is such a special talent and is a really great kid to coach," Sphire said. "He's got big-time potential and already has offers this week from Troy University. Tulane offered him a couple of weeks ago. But, he's just staying in the moment, living in the moment enjoying high school football."Armstrong said he was grateful for the opportunity to play in front of friends Friday night."I used to go here in middle school and I actually transferred in high school because better football opportunities for me," Armstrong said. "And just coming back and throwing three touchdowns in front of my home crowd. Everybody - parents, brothers, family watching me - it's just a good time."Sophomore Quinton Simon had two receptions for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Senior Gabe Williams had an 81-yard interception for a touchdown late in the second quarter.Highlands (2-1) plays host to Boyle County (3-0) Sept. 11. Boyle County is the reigning state champion and the No. 1-ranked team in the Class 4A state poll.Highlands, which entered this season No. 5 nationally among the all-time winningest high school football programs in the nation, has a balanced attack and excellent team speed for Sphire, who is nearing his 50th win with the storied program.Campbell County (2-1) hasnt defeated Highlands since 2016.
