An employee and the CEO of a Garland manufacturing plant told police a gunman took aim at their business. They say the shooter did not target their building but rather the unique products they sell on display outside. The eye-catching, futuristic-looking homes on the lawn of Massimo Modular Ma nufacturing in Garland appear to have caught the attention of the wrong person. The culprit, they told police, left a few modules riddled with bullets. “I just heard that pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, but I don’t see it when he’s been shooting at,” said Jose, an employee who asked to be identified only by his first name out of fear for his safety. “I just saw him with the rifle in his hand, that’s it.” According to CEO Rocco Falabella, the shooting happened Tuesday at about 7 p.m. Jose says he had just left the modular homes area of the property, was locking up and about to head home when he heard shots fired from what sounded like a high-powered rifle. He says he drove back around to the side of the property along King Road when he spotted a male holding an assault-style rifle getting in a black Dodge Charger driven by someone else and peeling off down the road. Falabella says he and Jose ensured all employees on the property were safe, and did not call police until the following morning after discovering the damage. “I have no clue who would do something like this. It feels safe, everybody that comes in the area, even walks in the area, doesn’t feel threatened. We talked to local businesses. They’re in shock as well,” Falabella said. Garland police confirm a police report was filed on Sept. 2. Investigators recovered several bullet casings to be analyzed, not only for potential fingerprints, but will be uploaded to a database in the event the rifle they were fired from is ever used and linked to other crimes. Falabella says he does not believe this was an “inside job.” “That would be depressing,” Falabella said. He intends to further strengthen security and says he came forward about this incident intending to raise awareness in and around Garland’s business community. ...read more read less
