Morgan Hill camp counselor held without bail after child molestation charges

A Gilroy man was officially charged Friday with molesting three 10-year girls while working as a summer camp counselor.
The case also brought California’s bail debate back into the spotlight after victims came forward, one-by-one, leading Anthony Joseph Ramos to be arrested three times. Each ti
me Ramos was arrested he was granted bail.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office consolidated all three cases and pushed the court to hold the suspect without bail.
Judge Stuart Scott agreed and said he was convinced Ramon was a potential danger to the community. Ramon was then put into handcuffs.

Ramon is accused of molesting three 10-year old girls at a summer camp field trip to the Morgan Hill Aquatic Center in June. He was charged Friday with three felony counts of lewd acts on a child under 14 with a “multiple victim” enhancement, which increases the possible sentences.
But even after the judge agreed to hold Ramon without bail, the district attorney’s office said the case shows the flaws in the justice system.
But Ramon’s attorney said his client followed all court orders and that his family sacrificed a lot to post bail.
Prosecutors on Friday also revealed claims that child pornography was found on Ramon’s phone. His family declined to comment on the charges.
For now, Ramon will remain in custody. His next court appearance will be held in about two weeks.
