INDIANAPOLIS (WRTV) Eight Hoosier veterans took the flight of a lifetime Thursday at Eagle Creek Airpark as a thank you for their service.I count my luck stars every day that I get to come out here and do this and honor the vet erans and give them an experience that more than likely, they would never ever have an opportunity to receive otherwise, Brian Corbett, partnerships coordinator with Dream Flights, said.The nonprofit gives back to people who served in the military. One flight at a time, each veteran took off in a 1942 Boeing-Stearman biplane.It actually did train aviators in World War II, to be fighter pilots in World War II. So, it is an actual piece of World War II history that we're using today, Corbett said.I'm a Vietnam veteran. I was in the infantry in Vietnam, Robert McNabb said.McNabb, 76, was a corporal in the Marines. On Thursday, he flew over the White River and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the flight.It was just like riding in a car. I liked it! McNabb said. And I've flown in several different airplanes, helicopters. I have to honestly say that was probably the best flight that I've had in my life.Dream Flights has completed more than 8,000 flights to date, and every flight is free for veterans and their families.We get paid in smiles, right?
