Instead, they got a tour of the president’s latest desk accessories. The phones were clearly customized for their new owner. Each device features gold-colored trim. The phones also display a presidential seal and a White House silhouette. Trump’s full name is printed across the front. “The President,” “45,” and “47” also appear on the devices. The gold-colored finish appears to be decorative. There is no evidence that the phones are gold-plated. Still, according to some on social media, the design looked less like secure presidential equipment and more like something from the executive aisle at Toys “R” Us. “Ooh, he put some stickers on it to make it all fancy, plus his name in case he forgets,” one Threads user wrote. However, one small red button positioned near the phones sent viewers into full detective mode. The mysterious control reminded people of Trump’s well-known “Diet Coke button,” an Oval Office feature his granddaughter Kai Trump recently highlighted during a virtual tour of the gilded workspace. Many wondered, “What is the red button for?” and “Is that the ‘bring me a coke’ button in front?” Another critic imagined another possible use for Trump’s customized phone. “I’m pretty sure it’s not plugged in, it just plays a looping audio that says ‘you’re the best and everyone loves you!’ when he picks up the receiver,” someone else wrote. “Oh for God’s sake … why?” asked another person.
