A pair of women who saw through the lies of a man pretending to be a 49ers player to scam other women came forward to speak out for the others who can’t or feel too ashamed to do it. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Oregon says 35-year-old Daejon Love shared photos of him in 49ers uniforms or li ving lavishly online with women looking for love. This was part of what authorities said he used to scam dozens of women across Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California. One of those women was Dominque Dubose, who matched with Love on a dating app in 2025. “He had pictures on his profile, of him playing for the 49ers as an NFL receiver, I think wide receiver or something,” she said. But the receiver felt like a deceiver to Dubose. She immediately began investigating, eventually unearthing lie after lie. “I kind of called him out like I know you’re not who you say you are,” Dubose said. “And that’s when he stopped talking. I blocked him and because I didn’t want to contact him anymore.” The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Love would lure women in and later used 18-year-Old Taylor Chan, who posed as his financial advisor. Court documents say the scheme going from at least February 2022 until their arrests last month and went as far as creating fake bank accounts that appear to show their investments growing after they sent love money. Court documents say one woman lost more than $87,000. Collectively, the pair pocketed more than $1.3 million, authorities said. “Once they had no more money to invest, asked too many, or for related documentation, Love blocked communications with them, but kept their money.” Investigators say they’ve identified at least 26 women they believe were victims of Love and Chan’s elaborate scheme. Ayo Faye, who now lives in Southern California, says while living in San Jose in 2023, she matched with Love on a dating app and later met him at Westfield Valley Fair, where he showed up decked out in 49ers gear. “He quote on quote caught himself trying to prove that he was real or whatever and he has money by coming with all these bags,” she said. She said it ended abruptly when she wouldn’t send him any money. Both women say they’re now speaking out because they want Love and Chan to pay for their harm and manipulation and because other women can’t or feel too ashamed to. “It’s funny to some but for others it’s not for me I didn’t have to experience that so I can laugh here and there but at the end of the day I do know what the other women are going through and I couldn’t have imagined having to go through that,” Dubose said. ...read more read less
