A child in Henefer was airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital after a baseball struck them during practice. The child was hit at about 5 p.m. A coach recognized the injury was serious and began CPR while North Summit Fire District was on its way. “Those first few minutes matter, and th e coach’s willingness to act made a critical difference,” North Summit Fire District said in a Facebook post. North Summit Fire District firefighters arrived on scene in about two minutes of being dispatched and immediately continued advanced lifesaving care. Crews administered a defibrillation shock and were able to restore a pulse. The child was subsequently transported by University of Utah AirMed to Primary Children’s Hospital. “We want to recognize the coach who stepped forward and immediately began CPR. This incident is an important reminder of why CPR and AED (automated external defibrillator) training are so valuable in our community,” North Summit Fire District said. “When cardiac arrest occurs, the actions taken by bystanders before first responders arrive can make the difference between life and death.” The district thanked those who assisted at the scene and implored community members to learn life-saving first aid. “Learn CPR. Know where the nearest AED is,” the district said. “Be willing to act.
