CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A man is in custody after a 12-hour police standoff in northeast Charlotte. According to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, the response started just before 5 p.m. Monday at the Evoke Living at Sugar Creek Apartments on Merlane Drive. Police say 33-year-old Jerricho Alexander was safely taken into custody around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday. He now faces multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, attempted murder, five counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official and possession of a firearm by a felon. According to CMPD, officers connected Alexander and his vehicle to a shooting that occurred Sunday. When officers attempted to serve a warrant at the apartment, Alexander barricaded himself inside. Police say he was in the apartment by himself. Around 12:30 a.m., officers say Alexander fired shots from inside the apartment, but no one was hurt.
