That was days before her husband decided the matter still needed settling. Then came a handful of accusations. For one, that El-Sayed hangs around with terrorist sympathizers, and that he could say America deserved 9/11. Vance called those things despicable, then said Michigan voters would judge El-Sayed on his record. And that’s where he turned it. The people of Michigan, he argued, think it’s “kind of weird when you talk about another guy’s wife.” They’d rather hear how he plans to protect auto workers. Clown sit TF down,” expressed one commentator. Another said, “Awww, was he trying to have his own little ‘Will Smith defending Jada’ moment? Too bad he has the ferocity of a used Kleenex. Maybe next time, little guy. Maybe next time.” But the loudest thread online wasn’t about El-Sayed. It was about the man Vance had just done an impression of. “Will Smith put more power in that line,” one X user posted alongside the rally clip. “JD Vance polished it up a bit.” Others zeroed in on why the borrowed line rang hollow coming from him. “Channeling Will Smith energy against Sayed, which is weird,” wrote another user. Critics read the post as suggesting Vance’s grandparents wouldn’t have accepted her. El-Sayed doubled down that evening on MS NOW. He argued his point was about who gets treated as American. By then, the second lady had already decided how to handle it and didn’t need her husband’s help.
