Almost two years after a fire damaged a building at St. Francis of Assisi School in Delaware County, the community will come together to celebrate their new space and a new beginning.  The Catholic school in Springfield is hosting a ribbon cutting at the primary building at 8 a.m. Tuesday for th e first day of school.  The fire happened in October of 2024 and caused significant damage to the building that housed pre-K and kindergarten students, along with first and third graders. No one was injured, but the fire forced some of the students to temporarily relocate to nearby St. Kevin Parish School.  A staple in the community, St. Francis of Assisi School is nearly 100 years old and has served generations of families. The fire was heartbreaking to many, but the school community was determined to come back even stronger and rise from the ashes.   After months of planning and construction, the work is complete and the new space is ready to welcome students for the new school year.  In addition to the ribbon cutting Tuesday morning, the school is hosting an open house Sunday September 13th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for people to tour the new space.  ...read more read less
