Justin Buzzard proved it is never too late to make a comeback, taking the field to play defense for San Jose City College at 47 years old.
While 35 is generally considered old by football standards, Buzzard stepped onto the field with just five minutes remaining in the Jaguars’ recent loss to C
ollege of the Redwoods.
During the drive, the father of three set up linebacker Kyler Headley for a sack against the opposing quarterback before adding an extra shove to finish the play.
“They’ve given me a shot and I’ve become part of the team, part of the family… my teammates and the coaches,” Buzzard said in an interview a few weeks ago after making the roster.
Buzzard’s teammates have given him the nickname “O.G.”
Although the game ended in a blowout loss, playing marked a dream long in the making for Buzzard. He played football in high school, but injuries forced him to give up the sport three decades ago in college.
