Miami Autism Dad Victor Antunez interviews autism dad Jeffrey T King, RN, President of TMCS Community Care, about the gap families fall into when they know something is wrong and have no idea how to get help. Founded in 1999 at the suggestion of a church member, TMCS Community Care has connected hu ndreds of Miami-Dade families to the healthcare, social, and community services they need. In 2023, he won a grant to bring early autism screenings to Miami-Dade. He explains how a screening works, why so many parents fear it will only bring bad news, and what it really is: a tool that opens doors instead of closing them. He shares the story of a mother of 5 whose health plan covered transportation but couldn’t fit 4 car seats, and how a church van solved what the system couldn’t. And he talks about the mom who called him after a screening changed her son’s life, and the sentence he’ll never forget: “I always knew something was wrong, but I didn’t know how to get help.” His message is 3 sentences long. Healthcare is complicated. We can all use help.
