The second-largest seafood chain in the United States is gearing up to plunder one of Long John Silver’s biggest markets. Captain D's Seafood Kitchen is on track to open its first San Antonio location at 7531 Bandera Rd. in September.The restaurant has not publicly confirmed the exact date. Still, one of the local franchise owners, Dave Peters, chimed in on a June discussion on the San Antonio Restaurants Facebook group to pinpoint September 7. On August 7, he posted photos of a near-completed space on his personal Facebook page, still promising a September debut.The Nashville, Tennessee-based quick-service restaurant first teased its San Antonio debut in April 2025, revealing plans for three locations. At the time, local franchise owners Dave Peters, Brian Clemens, and Ruben Cardenas said they were eyeing the Lackland Air Force Base area for its first storefront but did not specify an exact address.Similar to other national seafood chains, Captain D's specializes in fried foods like catfish plates, shrimp baskets, fish sandwiches, and hush puppies. Unlike some of its rivals, it supplements the heavier fare with lighter options like blackened tilapia, grilled wild-caught salmon, and fresh sides such as green beans and steamed broccoli.Raymond L. Danner Sr. founded the chain as Mr. D's Seafood and Hamburgers after he was not allowed to expand the territory of his Big Boy restaurant franchise.
