Tropical Storm Edouard has formed in the Gulf
Aug 31, 2026
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -We have a named storm in the Gulf tonight. The system we’ve been watching has strengthened into Tropical Storm Edouard, making it the fifth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.
Edouard has gone through a few changes pretty quickly today. It started the da
y as Invest 97L before being upgraded to a potential tropical cyclone late this morning, then to a Tropical Depression. Now, as of the latest update from the National Hurricane Center, it has officially reached Tropical Storm strength.
The storm is expected to continue strengthening as it tracks across the northern Gulf. Right now, the forecast takes Edouard toward the northwestern Gulf on Tuesday, with landfall expected within the warning area before the storm moves inland across southeastern Texas Tuesday night.
Tropical storm warnings are in effect for parts of the Upper Texas and southwestern Louisiana coasts. Those areas will need to keep a close eye on the storm as it approaches.
Even though Edouard is headed toward the western Gulf Coast, tropical moisture from the system could still have an impact farther east. We’ll keep watching the track and any changes as we head through the next couple of days.
