One person was killed and another injured after a knife-wielding woman went on a stabbing spree in Times Square before she was shot and killed by police, according to law enforcement sources.
The suspect, who police described as emotionally disturbed, had a knife in the tourist-heavy area Monday
afternoon and used it to stab two people near the intersection of West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue, police said.
One of the victims, a woman, was killed, according to law enforcement sources. Another victim, a man, was taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition.
Responding officers fired at the woman, police said. She was struck and taken to the hospital in critical condition, and later died.
The attacks did not appear to be terror-related, according to sources.
The NYPD advised avoiding the area around West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue and to expect delays in the surrounding blocks.
An investigation is ongoing.
