On Friday, a Bay Area community came together to pray for those caught in the devastating flooding along the border of Nepal and China’s Tibet region. Dozens gathered at the Nepali Community Center in Richmond to light up candles and pray for families caught in the catastrophic flooding along t he border between Nepal and China’s Tibet region. Nepali authorities say 626 people have died, and 2,426 others remain missing. Although most have heard from their loved ones, the group says one family is still waiting. The community is also racing to help survivors by raising money for relief and trying to figure out how to get critical supplies into an area where so much of the infrastructure has been destroyed. “Since the bridges are all gone and there is flooding in the rivers, it’s hard for the people to really get there and help the people in need so there are helicopters but there not enough and even the medical kits we are running tight on those,” Nepali Association of Northern California President Preetesh Karki said. In the Bay Area, community members say the Nepali community is not the only community hoping to hear from loved ones who remain missing, as some Tibetan and Indian residents also share that wait.
