Right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos, a British citizen who has made attention-getting stunts and far-right American politics his raison d'être over the last decade, has ironically been caught up in the sort of ICE action he's vocally supported.It has thankfully been many years since Milo Yiann opoulos was a topic of conversation on SFist, but the irony with today's news is too sweet. As TMZ was first to report, the right-wing provocateur, who for several years has kept himself somewhere in the orbit of Ye, aka Kanye West (for lack of more lucrative opportunities?), was arrested Thursday at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. It's not clear why Yiannopoulos was in New Orleans or where he was headed, but the arrest came a day ahead of a planned Ye concert at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, which is happening tonight.As the New York Times reports, the arrest of Yiannopoulos comes after years in which fellow right-wing provocateur Laura Loomer, with whom he's had a falling out, had been publicly calling for his deportation — announcing online that he was in the US on an expired visa. That appears to be true, and Yiannopoulos allegedly last entered the country legally in 2019 on a temporary visa.Both Loomer and another far-right figure, former Proud Boys chairman Enrique Tarrio, celebrated Yiannopoulos's detention online, with Tarrio saying "Good riddance," on X.Loomer, who was welcomed into the Oval Office last year not long after Donald Trump was reelected, has had a direct line to the president for some time, and has previously taken credit for spurring firings among aides, presenting background research to Trump to show their disloyalty to their shared cause. And Steve Bannon has praised her for having "the same intensity Roy Cohn had," referring to one of Trump's dearest mentors.Among the administration figures she has gunned for getting fired was former Attorney General Pam Bondi, over her handling of the Epstein Files.Yiannopoulos fell from grace in conservative circles back in 2017, after years in which he served as an editor at Breitbart, over public comments he made in early 2017 downplaying the idea of pedophilia and calling consent an "arbitrary and oppressive idea." He nonetheless kept himself in the headlines and came to the Bay Area later that year promoting an event at UC Berkeley he called "Free Speech Week," and then showing up on the campus for about 15 minutes one weekend.Don't even get me started on Yiannopoulos's fall 2017 marriage to his boyfriend in Hawaii (whose identity has has never share and who must not have been a US citizen), and his subsequent 2021 comments claiming to be an "ex-gay" and born-again Catholic, further claiming that he "demoted" his husband to housemate.Yiannopoulos, who was an ardent fan of Trump in his first term, then claimed to have been the architect behind a 2022 dinner at Mar a Lago with Kanye West and white nationalist Nick Fuentes, which Trump reportedly treated as a kind of ambush and a setup in comments afterward. It could also be that the detention/deportation of Yiannopoulos is Trump's revenge for that, four years later.Loomer's falling out with Yiannopoulos appears to have begun in 2024, with Yiannopoulos exposing Loomer online for having been institutionalized for mental health episodes in the past, which led directly to her calls for his deportation once Trump came into office.And the whole pedophilia comments thing, with Trump's standing in some right-wing circles still damaged from the Epstein business, certainly doesn't help.Apologies for having amplified more petty news about a useless human being.
