Chreece Hip-Hop Festival takes place in Fountain Square tomorrow INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Chreece Hip Hop Festival returns to celebrate the Indianapolis music scene on Saturday, for a full day of music. The festival will host performances at eight different venues in Fountain Square. For t he last few years, organizers have shut down traffic in the neighborhood for a massive block party with vendors and food trucks alongside the music. This year, Chreece partnered with Epicurean Indy to host an international food festival alongside the music festival. The lineup includes 70+ artists; a few artists joined WISH-TV’s Daybreak for live interviews ahead of this year’s performances. Sierra Harvey, or “SillyCe,” is the venue DJ at Atomic Bowl this Chreece. She says it’s an honor to be invited back to the festival. “We have so much talent here in the city,” Harvey said. “Just to be on the ones and twos and to be able to look at the talent and the acts throughout the night is just going to be a treat for sure.” Austin Coleman, also known as “Austin Je” is also a returning performer. He’s the last performer at Square Cat Vinyl at 7:30 p.m. He’s among the festival’s longest-performing artists. “It’s humbling to even be graciously invited back to be a part of something for so long,” Coleman said. “Chreece is a holiday — It’s literally a Naptown holiday that we created for ourselves, by ourselves, when nobody was giving us a shot.” Weirdo Gang is a trio of artists who describe themselves as a “vibe” instead of a rap group. They have a set at Atomic Bowl at 10:15 p.m. Lavonte Daniels, stage name “Flip Arachee,” says the festival is always a blast. “It feels like we leveled up a little bit,” Daniels said. “This time it’s a little bit more respect. It feels more so like the city is watching what we have going on and more people are going to show up to see how we perform and provide the vibe for everyone else.” Lauren Seymour, performing as “Laylo,” is an Indy-based musician performing at her first Chreece this year. She’ll be at Square Cat Vinyl at 2:30 p.m. “I feel really blessed, honestly,” Seymour said. “Out of hundreds of people who submitted, I was chosen. I’m excited. I can’t wait.”  It’s not just local acts taking the stage — Elias Azzoui-Ihda, or “Don Fuego,” is visiting the United States for the first time from Belgium. He’ll perform at 9:05 p.m. at the White Rabbit Cabaret. “Big people make some big things, and we are happy here,” Azzoui-Ihda said. “The city is very cool. People are very kind and very effective and share good energy.” The festival officially opens at noon, with music starting at 1 p.m. Tickets to Chreece can be purchased on the festival website.
