Familiar face to start at quarterback against IU football in opener

Denton, Tex. (WISH) — The No. 6 Indiana University football team is less than two weeks away from playing in its first regular season game against North Texas.
The Hoosiers host North Texas on Saturday, Sept. 5 inside Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Ind.

xas offense in that matchup knows the Hoosiers well.
The Mean Green announced on Wednesday that Tayven Jackson has been the named the team’s starting quarterback for the upcoming season. Jackson played for the Hoosiers for two seasons (2023-24).
Jackson is a Greenwood, Ind. native who starred at Center Grove High School.
Since graduating high school, he has played at multiple colleges.
In 2022, he played for Tennessee, before coming back to the Hoosier State for a couple of years at IU.
Then, last year (2025), Jackson played at UCF, where he threw for a career-high 2,151 yards. He tossed 10 touchdowns and 8 interceptions last year at UCF.
He transferred to North Texas this past offseason.
Jackson is the younger brother of former IU basketball star Trayce Jackson-Davis. Jackson-Davis said in a post on X Wednesday that he will be at the game on Sept. 5 to watch his brother play the Hoosiers.
It will be IU’s first game since winning the program’s first-ever national championship back in January.
