JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WRTV) Two middle school girls were taken to a hospital after a school bus carrying a volleyball team was struck while making a U-turn on I-265 on Wednesday afternoon, Indiana State Police said.The crash ha ppened at 4:56 p.m. Wednesday on I-265 westbound near the 10th Street and State Road 62 exit.Debra Barr, 69, of Ramsey, was driving a 2023 North Harrison school bus with members of the North Harrison girls middle school volleyball team, said a state police news release issued Wednesday night. Barr pulled onto the right shoulder and tried to make a U-turn at an interstate crossover to reach the eastbound lanes.While the bus was stopped in the crossover, its rear remained in the left lane of I-265 westbound. Michael Bigenho, 25, of New Albany, was driving a blue 2026 Kia Sportage westbound when he hit the back of the bus.Bigenho suffered minor injuries to his hands. The Kia caught fire after the impact, but bystanders extinguished the flames before anyone else was hurt.Bystanders and emergency crews helped all the passengers off the bus.Two girls from the team were taken to Norton Childrens Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky, for evaluation of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.State police cited Barr for making an illegal U-turn on the interstate.Both vehicles were towed from the scene.The crash remained under investigation. ...read more read less
