The dean of research at Rutgers University’s School of Environmental and Biological Sciences has been charged after, officials claim, he shot “upskirt” videos while working at the school. According to the Attorney General of New Jersey, Jennifer Davenport, Joshua Kohut, 51, of Cranbury, Ne w Jersey, has been charged with fourth-degree invasion of privacy after police, allegedly, found video that showed a victim’s “undergarment-clad intimate parts” on a phone owned by Kohut. “The defendant is alleged to have used his mobile phone to record ‘upskirt’ videos without his victim’s knowledge,” said Davenport in a statement on the charges against Kohut. “An invasion of privacy like this is not just disturbing, it is also a criminal act. We will prosecute accordingly.” According to Davenport’s office, officers executed a search warrant on Aug. 24, 2026, and seized devices belonging to Kohut, where one of the devices was allegedly found to contain “upskirt” videos. Contacted for comment, in a statement to NBC10, Rutgers University officials said that Kohut has been placed on administrative leave and has been banned from the school’s campus. “The university placed Josh Kohut on administrative leave after being informed of the extremely disturbing charges,” the school said in a statement. “The research dean also is banned from campus pending the outcome of an investigation.” Neither police nor Rutgers University said if the victim in this incident was a student at the school.
