Fire officials say a four-year-old boy and a seven-year-old girl were killed in a three-alarm house fire in Trenton, New Jersey early Wednesday. At the scene on Wednesday morning, Trenton Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Rice told NBC10’s Neil Fischer that firefighters found the childre n during a search of the burning home along the 300 block of Hewitt Street in Trenton, New Jersey, at about 4 a.m. on Wednesday. The children were rushed to a nearby hospital however, shortly after arrival, Rice said, they succumbed to injuries they suffered in the flames. Also, Rice said, a man escaped the home without injury. During the response to the incident, Rice said, two firefighters were injured. One, he said, was treated and released after dealing with some heat exhaustion and the other was being treated for non-life threatening injuries after suffering burns to his legs. Also, according to Reed Gusciora, the mayor of Trenton, the family had just moved into the home and there were five family members inside the property when the flames broke out. However, two of the family members that were believed to be in the home when the fire began were still unaccounted for as of about 8:40 a.m., he said. Firefighters could be seen working amid the charred remains of a Trenton, New Jersey rowhome after an early morning fire on Wednesday. NBC10’s SkyForce 10 captured footage of crews working to put water on the structure as several firefighters worked to pull debris from the burnt out home. Fire officials did not provide additional details on the identities of the victims in this incident, but an investigation was ongoing.
