Loved ones are mourning a man who was shot and killed in Trenton, New Jersey, over the weekend. On Sunday, Aug. 23, shortly after 11:30 p.m., Trenton police officers responded to the 600 block of Whittaker Avenue for a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. When they arrived , they found 29-year-old Maicol Eliezer Metzler Chic who was unresponsive. The officers performed CPR on Chic who was then taken to Capital Health Regional Medial Center where he was pronounced dead. As police continue to investigate, Chic’s family members are speaking out. They told NBC10 that Chic was shot and killed while he was walking home with his loved ones Sunday night. Chic’s uncles said they were just minutes away from their home when they saw a car backing up towards them. Two masked men armed with guns then exited the vehicle and opened fire, shooting Chic in the chest, according to his family members. On Tuesday, Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora met with Chic’s family, walked to the scene of the shooting and helped start a small memorial for the victim. “It hurts the morale of the community,” Mayor Gusciora said. “It hurts the morale of the city. Any homicide is one too many in the city. And while crime overall has gone down over the last couple years, it just shows how much more we have to do. And we have to make sure that patrol is paying more special attention to this area.” The family is currently working to send Chic’s remains back to his native Guatemala. NBC10 helped connect them directly to the Guatemalan Consulate. No arrests have been made in the shooting and police have not released a description of any suspects.
