Please consider memorial contributions to: Vermont Ve terans Place 220 Vine Street, Northfield, VT 05663 Rudulfo “Rudy” Gomez, 93, of Hardwick, VT, our dad, Poppy, Grandpa, Great Poppy, uncle and brother, passed on February 6, 2026. Born to immigrant parents, Santiago Gomez, Sr. and Carmen Pinan on April 4, 1932 along with his twin brother, Ramon, in Montpelier, VT.  Rudy grew up on Wheelock Street in Montpelier along with his six brothers and two sisters.   They were a hardscrabble family, that grew up with their grandmother, that led to Rudy enlisting in the U.S. Marine Reserves.  He was called to duty in his senior year of high school and did not graduate.  Many years later in 2005, Rudy received his high school diploma from Montpelier High School through a Vermont bill that awarded eligible Korean War veteran’s that served during the Korean War and were honorably discharged.  Rudy was very proud to receive his high school diploma, although 55 years later!  Better late than never, right? When Rudy returned from Korea, he went into the granite industry, as a Derrick Operator.  Although, he aspired to be a Sculptor, he never achieved that goal.  He did however, become one of Vermont’s best Cutter/Finisher’s and his beautiful art work is on display in many cemeteries and military monuments all around the world. Rudy was pretty well known in the Central Vermont area to be pretty good at horseshoes and bowling, two of his favorite sports.  He received many awards, most of all he cherished his friends and the fun that he had when playing in these leagues.  Rudy was an avid deer hunter and fisherman, he enjoyed being alone in the woods where he found peace. Rudy was probably the happiest when he was riding his motorcycle.  He had many adventures, Sturgis, Daytona and Laconia Bike Weeks.  Many solo and Toy Run rides right up until his 90’s.  He said riding was his therapy and that he felt the most “alive” while riding, feeling his stresses melt away in the wind. Rudy is survived by daughter Robin Gomez; sons Renato Gomez, Michael Smith and Travis Smith-Miranda; grandchildren Raven (Chris) Campbell, McKenna Aiden Miranda; great- grandchild Sadie Campbell;  brother, Noel Gomez; and sister, Chiquita Gomez.  Many bowling and horseshoe league friends, many biker buddies, and many coworkers who are still alive and kicking. His Marine family, Semper Fidelis. He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Santiago Jr, Richard, Domingo, Manuel; his twin, Ramon (d. 4/23/26); his sister, Consuelo; friends/lovers, Neysha Rossi, Donna Gomez and Doris Gomez.
