Two employees at a San Francisco homeless navigation center were charged Monday with two felonies for allegedly interfering with an investigation into the shooting of a police officer in May. Oakland resident Erika Porter, 45, and San Francisco resident Oliver Barcenas, 36, were accused of harbor ing Norris Reed III at the Bayshore Navigation Center after he arrived there after allegedly shooting a San Francisco police officer. The officer was struck multiple times after an alleged pursuit of Reed that began when officers attempted to stop his vehicle in connection with a robbery investigation, according to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office. The pursuit on May 31 began at Mission and First streets and ended when Reed crashed at Bayshore Boulevard and Jerrold Avenue. He allegedly opened fire on SFPD officers before at least one officer returned fire, according to the DA’s office. Reed was accused of running to the navigation center at 125 Bayshore Blvd. Police accused Barcenas of giving Reed a hat and clothes that they said were meant to conceal his identity, and that Barcenas knew Reed had a firearm when he arrived. Porter was accused of giving officers false information when they were trying to locate him at the facility by allegedly misleading officers when Reed was right around a corner out of officers’ view, according to SFPD Chief Derrick Lew, who said the surveillance video of the incident was “stunning.” “Attempting to assist an armed gunman evade capture after shooting a police officer is unconscionable,” Lew said in a statement. The officer who was shot, Brittney Taylor, was discharged from the hospital and was recovering at home, Lew said. Porter and Barcenas were both charged with felonies of being an accessory after the fact and resisting, obstructing, or delaying of a peace officer.
