A Cleburne police officer was shot and wounded and a suspect was killed Monday evening after a pursuit that began in Cleburne and ended outside a Sam’s Club in Burleson, authorities said.

on brandishing a firearm.
When officers arrived, the fled the area in a vehicle, leading officers on a pursuit through Alvarado and northbound on I-35W, police said.
The chase ended near the Sam’s Club on N. Burleson Blvd. in Burleson.
Authorities said shots were fired during the incident. The suspect was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.
A Cleburne police officer was also struck in the leg by gunfire and transported to a hospital for treatment. At last check, that the officer was reported in stable condition.
Cellphone video captured the moments after the shooting, showing a large law enforcement response outside the store. Witness Michael Garcia said he was shopping when he suddenly found himself in the middle of the chaos.
“It was a scary moment and hadn’t witnessed anything like that,” Garcia said. “My truck was right there. I was seeing everything.”
Garcia said he and others tried to help after seeing the injured officer.
“I saw the officer go down. We got off and tried to assist, trying to do a tourniquet. We just assisted as much as I could,” Garcia said. “I hope he’s OK. And thank you for saving us. And saving the customers that are worried still inside.”
Burleson Police said Monday night there was no known threat to the community.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office also confirmed that two of its deputies were involved in the incident.
As is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings, the Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation.
Authorities have not released the identity of the person who was killed, nor have they provided details about what led to the exchange of gunfire.
The investigation remains ongoing.
