Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey is considered one of the best at his position, but he’s still taking training camp seriously. “Just working on finding the consistency again of being in the live ops with my specialists, always trying to get the ball to go straighter and straighter. Workin g on the wind out here is always a tough one. So trying to hit that piercing ball, a little lower ball flight, and just deal with the elements.” Aubrey said. “I mean, it’s a group that has got another year under the belt of working together, coming closer. We’re really stressing the emphasis of the culture of the team, sacrificing for each other, coming as close as possible. That close-knit brotherhood, I think, will carry us further than our talent individually could. I think guys are buying into that. And it’s coming from the top, from Shawty. It’s coming the leadership on the team. Guys like Dak. And just everyone’s bought into it. I’m glad it was a good summer for you, for your family.” Aubrey said his focus is different from most of his teammates, who play dozens of snaps per game. “The challenges for a kicker is usually mentally, staying resilient. You’re going to have moments where you feel like you’ve let your team down, because you have really one thing you’re going on the field to do, and that’s score points. And if you go on the field and you don’t score points, you feel you’ve let the whole team down. And you can’t really do much about it, because you only get that play. You’re not in to play defense and get the ball back for your guys,” Aubrey said. Aubrey was a local soccer star before he had NFL dreams, but he still respects being a part of a franchise with a lot of history. “It’s a privilege. This is an incredibly well-run organization. I think the best sports franchise in the world. So to be a part of it is a huge deal. And it was a major consideration in why I wanted to come back here,” Aubrey said. “So just to be part of, it is a huge honor. I’m not really sure I’ll ever truly grasp until maybe the moment’s passed and I can look back and reflect on it.” Aubrey was a fan of ATT Stadium hosting 2026 FIFA World Cup matches. “It was a blast. I watched about every game, as much as I could possibly do. I’ve fallen asleep, obviously, with how many games there were. But I had a new kid, and it can be tiring running around, chasing the older one. Just, it was awesome to see all the different cultures come to America and see what we have to offer firsthand and kind of change that perception, whether they had a negative one or a positive one, just make it a little bit better for them,” Aubrey said. Aubrey’s summer of soccer kicked off early, when Arsenal won the English Premier League for the first time in more than 20 years. “I started following Arsenal because Thierry Henry is my favorite player growing up, and obviously those teams were incredibly talented and were able to win a lot of trophies, and since those teams the bulk of my life, they haven’t won anything, but they’ve been close been not the finish line just haven’t been able to get over it,” Aubrey said. Now, Aubrey is looking forward to Mexican soccer star ‘Chicarito’ coming to Atletico Dallas. “It just means to be even in the USL for a player of his caliber to consider making a move like that is just speaks to how much commitment the US system has to making the whole system work and produce talent from the young level, have a place for players to develop before eventually advancing onto the MLS. It’s just, it speaks volumes to how the world thinks of the US soccer system, and hopefully we can kind of catch up with those giants that are winning World Cups,” Aubrey said. ...read more read less
