By Melissa Patrick, Kentucky Health News · August 24, 2026 In recognition of Overdose Awareness Day, there will be a screening of the documentary “Shuffle” at the Kentucky Theatre in Lexington on Monday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. “Shuffle’ was filmed over the course of three years and follows thr ee young people’s experience navigating the treatment industry, with one of them from Kentucky. According to the release, “The film exposes the insurance-fueled cycle of addiction treatment fraud that’s spreading across the country. Using his own experience as a guide, the filmmaker narrates personal stories that serve as a framework for a broader investigation. With the help of an FBI informant, an insurance analyst, and the former executive director of a Philadelphia-based treatment facility, SHUFFLE uncovers a web of public policy and private interests preying on a vulnerable population for profit.” The award-winning documentary is sponsored by the Lexington Social Services Substance Use Intervention Program and will be followed by a QA and conversation with director Benjamin Flaherty.
